The Five Steps to a Beautiful Exterior

1. Power Washing

• Environmentally-friendly detergent or bleach is used to remove dirt & mildew as required
• Gutters and leaders hand-washed
• Loose paint chips are cleaned up
• Driveways and decks cleaned upon request

2. Scraping, Priming and Minor Maintenance

• All loose paint is removed, all bare areas are primed
• Glossy areas are scuff-sanded
• Feather-sanding and stripping done upon request
• Areas around doors and windows are caulked, window panes receive new putty where necessary
• Wood, masonry and stucco repairs available upon request or when specified on the contract

3. Painting

• Full finish coat is applied to proper coverage and finish
• All non-painted surfaces are covered to protect against splatters and drips
• Paint is applied with a brush, roller or sprayer depending on the surface
• Second coat is available upon request or when specified on the contract
• Only premium quality paints are used

Elastomeric Coatings

Elastomeric is a relatively new product that has become available from all major paint suppliers in recent years. It has already proven to be effective in its waterproofing and protective qualities. For these reasons, architects have been recommending it on many of their jobs for commercial and residential projects. It is a type of paint that is similar to caulking. It is very thick and when it dries it retains its elastic properties. It comes in the same colors as paints.

What Is The Advantage of Elastomeric?

Elastomeric paint will "bridge" the hairline crack and not open up again. Because of this elasticity, it is effective in waterproofing the surface. This is better than latex or enamel paints, which are brittle when they dry and can crack open to allow water to enter the surface. On exterior plywood, the water entering the plywood will eventually destroy the glues and the wood will literally come apart.

Cost Of Elastomeric

Applying elastomeric rather than paint is more expensive for the following reasons:

• The material is more expensive per gallon than other high quality paints.
• It takes more gallons of the material because of its thickness. It requires more labor and larger equipment to apply the product. You will find the results, both in the look and added protection, to be well worth the cost.

4. Cleanup

• Performed daily and upon completion of the job
• All garbage is removed
• Plant beds cleaned and paint chips removed
• Touchup paint is labeled and left with the customer
• Outdoor furniture and fixtures replaced

5. Inspection

• Before the crew packs up their equipment, a "wet walk-around" is done to ensure all contracted areas are painted properly
• Final touchups are noted on a "punch list" and completed before the crew leaves

• After the crew leaves, a "dry walk-around" is done with the customer
